In addition to shouldering responsibility for charting out arrangements for the first night‚Äôs all- star show, he was also tasked during DRB‚Äôs two hour-plus set with moving from a variety of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eelectric and acoustic guitars to mandolin and back again, all while contributing harmony vocals to many of their songs as well. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv title=\"Page 2\" class=\"page\"\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"section\"\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"layoutArea\"\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"column\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHerb Pedersen said, ‚ÄúI remember the night before [the concert], John looked at me and he said, ‚ÄòI don‚Äôt think I can do this.‚Äô And I said, ‚ÄòYou‚Äôve already done it, pal! We just need to walk out there and do the show, and that‚Äôs kind of what it came to.‚Äù¬†\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn fact, Jorgenson recalled, when show time did finally roll around, ‚ÄúWe started off with ‚ÄòAshes of Love,‚Äô and when I counted it off and everybody came in, literally it felt like a jet was lifting off the runway. At that point, I was like, ‚ÄòOK, I‚Äôm going to be able to do this.‚Äù \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePedal steel guitarist Jay Dee Maness, however, experienced it very differently. One of the most celebrated and in-demand steel players of the past half century, Maness recalls the first time they came together to run through songs. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e‚ÄúWe got into a rehearsal, and you‚Äôre thinking ‚ÄòWell, let‚Äôs just brush up on these songs we haven‚Äôt played together in a while.‚Äô After about half an hour, we all kind of looked around at each other and went, ‚ÄòWhy are we even here?‚Äô \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e‚ÄúThe music comes so easily,‚Äù \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHillman said ‚ÄúMaybe the funniest thing is that right before we went onstage, I turned into this football coach and was saying to the others, ‚ÄòOK, you know how to do this! We know how to do this. Let‚Äôs just have a good time‚Äîthere‚Äôs no room for any anxiety on any level. Everything flowed so well.
