The Byrds were truly a gift to rock music fans all over the world. There will never be another collective of superstar talent like The Byrds. Their amazing sound and membership is of legendary proportion, as it truly was shown in 1968 with their brilliant landmark bluegrass and country/rock masterpiece "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo."
As their only album to feature the debut of the gifted singer songwriter Gram Parsons, "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo" is looked upon as one of the first country crossover albums by a rock band and is revered today as one of the Byrds finest in their extensive catalog.
As they go back to the Bob Dylan songbook with their masterful rendition of "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere", which features the steel guitar sound of Lloyd Green, you know you are in for a incredible journey.
Uniquely Byrds treated gospel favorites like "I Am A Pilgrim" and "The Christian Life" add to the country flavored fare of this amazing album, along with a pair of home runs from Gram Parsons with his stellar "Hickory Wind" and "One Hundred Years From Now."
More authentic Byrds magic is contained within including more gems from the soulfulness of William Bell's classic "You Don't Miss Your Water", Woody Guthries' folk treaure "Pretty Boy Floyd" and the close out Bob Dylan bookend "Nothing Was Delivered" truly making "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo" one of the most innovative rock albums of all time. With the lead vocals and unmistakable 12 string guitar work of Roger McGuinn, the solid bass playing and vocal work of the great Chris Hillman, guitar and vocal work of the late great Gram Parsons, along with the powerful drums of Kevin Kelley, The Byrds became a force to reckon with like no other. Cultivating their folk and rock influences into psychedelic electric treasures, their music will forever stand the test of time.
