Freddie King Is A Blues Master is more than just an appropriate title for this legendary blues album....It is a true description of the prowess, excitement and artistry that this brilliant artist conveyed to millions of his fans and fellow musicians for the very short time we were all blessed to have him on planet earth. The Gilmer, Texas born guitarist and blues master was an ardent student of country blues throughout his early life. A later move to Chicago as a teenager altered his expertise and showmanship after meeting and becoming musically involved with iconic blues figures like Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. After years of smaller label releases, plentiful session work and tireless club gigs, "The Texas Cannonball's" songs were soon to be covered by some of the biggest rock and blues artists of all time like John Mayall, Eric Clapton and Johnny Winter. Freddie moved back to Texas and would soon be contacted by saxophone legend King Curtis and Atlantic Records to record a new album of material for the newlabel Cotillion, which would go on to become one of the first albums for this historic label as well. The recording sessions for Freddie King Is A Blues Master at Atlantic Studios in New York yielded 12 stellar workouts which have all gone on to become some of his most treasured material. Kicking things off with the soulful blues of his hit single Play It Cool, King Curtis got Freddie not only to show his guitar acumen, but also displayed his soulful vocal style that was never really exploited on earlier recordings. This new album proved that Freddie King could also deliver the goods as even more powerful artistry abounds with the funk of Allen Toussaints' Get Out Of My Life Woman, the sweltering lead guitar breaks on That Will Never Do, the thrilling approach of the master on Today I Sing The Blues and the instrumental break beat of his solid groover Wide Open. The urban country blues are revisited here as well with It's Too Late, She's Gone which would also be covered later by his friends Eric Clapton's Derek & The Dominoes. Thebrilliant King Curtis original Let Me Down Easy truly showcases Freddie King in a whole new light for a lot of blues musicians at the time. As another stellar release in our Freddie King Original Records Master Series, Friday Music is proud to offer for the first time Freddie King Is A Blues Master/The Deluxe Edition.
