It's not very often to witness the importance of a new artist when their debut album gets released. From time to time, these initial works will become as legendary as their lifetime careers are. The great Phoebe Snow and her debut album simply titled Phoebe Snow are an example of this rare phenomenon. Filled with nine extraordinary songs, seven of those written by a 23-year-old Phoebe Snow, including the smash hit single Poetry Man, truly became the catalyst for a legendary career which lasted for many years.

In addition to the aforementioned Poetry Man, all of the radio formats found a new love affair with the artist and her new album. This oc- curred as more tunes developed into top album tracks like the hipster uptown blues found on the masterful Harpo Blues, which also features the jazz great Teddy Wilson on a piano, plus the equally solid and soulful sounds of I Don't Want The Night To End.

The album went onto reach the upper rungs of the music and radio charts and set off a chain of successes for the artist as she was soon singing and touring all over the world with her natural soul/jazz/folk and rock voice and superstar persona. From this debut release, Phoebe Snow also proved how she could collaborate with her fellow musicians as seen on tracks like No Show Tonight with Traffic's Dave Mason, Either Or Both with David Bromberg, and It Must Be Sunday with jazz superstars Bob James and Zoot Sims. These collaborative ef- forts paid off as she soon became the toast of the industry with a bevy of invitations to perform duets and guest vocals with the likes of Paul Simon, Donald Fagen, Dave Grusin, Linda Rondstat, Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald and many others. Obviously, the world fell in love with Phoebe Snow. We did too....
