For an artist who first gained success as a songwriter with superstars like The Turtles, Linda Ronstadt, and Jackson Browne, Warren
Zevon's own acclaimed recordings proved to be a major force on the music scene for many decades. His music transcended all genres
of rock and pop music styles, fuzing melodic landscapes with thought provoking and somewhat controversial lyrical content during
his successful reign on the album and radio charts.
After reaching platinum heights in the 70's with his very popular Excitable Boy LP (Friday Music 9006) and continuing his amazing 1980's
output with brilliant works like Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School(Friday Music 509),Warren Zevon returned with a vengeance in the
1990's with a series of fine albumson Giant Records. The first album on this new deal was the often cited masterwork Mr. Bad Example.
As another notch in his amazing chart album career, the fine album reunited producer and great friend Waddy Wachtel with the artist
and brought back some of the familiarity of his early aforementioned classics.
The ten track fan favorite is loaded with time honored Warren Zevon classics like the opening rocker Finishing Touches as well as more
masterful Zevon magic with Model Citizen, the sorely missed soundsof the brilliant Angel Dressed In Black and Searching For A Heart,
and the comical Things To Do In Denver When Your Dead, as well as melodic ballads like Suzie Lightning and the country flavored
Heartache Spoken Here featuring his superstar friend Dwight Yoakam on vocals.
The Mr. Bad Example sessions also featured the musical talents of Warren Zevon's fellow rockers like David Lindley (Jackson Browne),
Jim Keltner (Bob Dylan,Traveling Wilburys),Jeff Porcaro (Toto) and Jorge Calderon (Warren Zevon).
Released a few years later, Mutineer was another fine recording of which Warren Zevon acted as both the artist and the producer. Filled
with ten more powerful songs which had all the zest and familiarity of his Elektra era recordings, Mutineer was also his last album after a
long and successful tenure within the Warner Bros. family of labels around the corner.
Tracks like the rockers Seminole Bingo, Poisonous Lookalike and Rottweiler Blues furthered this legendary artist's superstar status as
friends like Bruce Hornsby, Rosemary Butler and David Lindley all lended their talents to this Zevon masterwork. More introspective
writings like Monkey Wash Donkey Rinse and the brilliant title track Mutineer truly show us the unique and sorely missed talents of this
beloved singer/songwriter.
Both of these Warren Zevon albums have been out of print on compact disc now for quite some time. However, Friday Music is now very
