The Souther Hillman Furay Band were one of the first supergroups of the mid-seventies which brought together the super talented sounds of John David Souther who was known for his angelic voice and arsenal of hit songs with bands like The Eagles, The Byrds' co- founder multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and hit songwriter Chris Hillman, who had just left Manassas with Stephen Stills, and the powerful voice, guitar and acclaimed songwriter Richie Furay of Poco/Buffalo Springfield fame.
The three artists got together and recorded the #11 chart hit album "The Souther Hillman Furay Band" in 1974 on the relatively new L.A. based Asylum Records label. With production from Richie Podolor (Steppenwolf/Alice Cooper/Three Dog Night), the album would deliver several rock radio hits like "Safe At Home" "Border Town" and the hit single "Fallin' In Love."
The powerful band consisted of the three principles along with Jim Gordon on drums (Derek & The Dominos), Al Perkins on steel guitar/guitars (Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas) , Paul Harris (Manassas/B.B. King) and Joe Lala (Crosby, Stills & Nash/Dan Fogelberg).
More brilliance would be found within thanks to the songwriting skills of all three artists with tunes like Souther's stellar ballad "Deep, Dark and Dreamless" Hillman's classic "Heavenly Fire" and Furay's stunning "Believe Me."
Friday Music is very pleased to announce the first time ever Clear Blue Vinyl -50th Anniversary Edition of "The Souther Hillman Furay Band." Mastered impeccably by long time friend and associate Joe Reagoso (The Byrds/Richie Furay/SHF Band) from the 1974 Asylum recordings, this super limited pressing will also be featured in the long out of print gatefold cover, now featuring new liner notes from Chris Hillman and Richie Furay.
The Souther Hillman Furay Band" album will be one of the more important classic rock revisits this year, brought to you by your friends at Friday Music. Enjoy!
