“Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The Utopian Experience” was the debut
masterwork from P.M. Dawn (Prince Be - Attrel Cordes & DJ Minutemix -Jarrett Cordes)
featuring a highly eclectic mix of hip-hop, rap, funk, jazz and rock sounds with the brilliant
vocals and writings of the Brothers Cordes, the album set the world on fire with the #1 hit
single “Set Adrift On A Memory Bliss.
” Featuring a nod to Spandau Ballet’s “True”
, the tune
would propel the duo onto the top of the music world in very short order.
Even more follow-up hit tracks like “Paper Doll” and “Reality Used To Be A Friend Of Mine”
would garner P.M. Dawn serious praise from the musical trades like Top# 5 The Village
Voice’s Jazz and Pop Critics Poll, #10 Best Album of 1991 from Spin Magazine and more year
end praise from The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Entertainment Weekly and The
Los Angeles Times.
P.M. Dawn’s debut became a cultural and multi-media sensation as well thanks to heavy
rotation on MTV, where it also received more exposure on their influential program Buzz Bin.
1992’s “Encino Man” also used “Reality Used To Be A Friend Of Mine” during the opening of
the hit film.
A very influential album which has been impossible to find on vinyl, as the compact disc was
the most compelling medium at the time. It’s not uncommon to see the overseas vinyl of this
Lp going for hundreds of dollars for a used copy…..that is until now!
Friday Music is no stranger to the hip-hop fusion sounds of P.M. Dawn, therefore we are very
pleased to announce the long awaited return of their huge debut album “Of The Heart, of
The Soul and of The Cross: The Utopian Experience.
”
For a very limited time, this smash debut P.M. Dawn album will be pressed on stunning Set
Adrift Black & Snow Splatter Vinyl, and will be featured in the super rare gatefold cover art
presentation, not seen in decades.
Produced by P.M. Dawn and Mastered Impeccably by Joe Reagoso (P.M. Dawn/George
Clinton & The P-Funk Allstars) from the Melody Catalog Lp tapes,
“Of The Heart, of The Soul
and of The Cross: The Utopian Experience” will definitely become one of the most important
album revisits this year.
